What is Kiosk Mode?
Kiosk Mode transforms a tablet into a dedicated venue display and management station. Place it behind the bar, mount it on the wall near the boards, or prop it up where players gather.
A kiosk tablet provides:
- QR code check-in — Players scan to check in at the venue
- Board status display — See which boards are available or in use
- Venue leaderboard — Live rankings for the venue
- Player management — Add guest players, remove check-ins
- Custom splash screen — Display your venue branding
Setting Up a Kiosk
What You Need
- An Android tablet (any size — 10" recommended for wall mounting)
- Oche app installed
- Wi-Fi connection
- A venue already created in Oche
Step by Step
- Open Oche on the tablet
- From the home screen, select Kiosk Mode
- Choose Pair Device
- Enter your venue's pairing code (generated in venue settings)
- The tablet is now linked to your venue
- Select which board to assign (optional — useful if you have one tablet per board)
- The kiosk home screen appears with the venue's QR code and board status
✅
Tip: Enable the device's "Stay Awake" or "Screen Timeout: Never" setting to keep the kiosk display always on. The Oche app uses WakeLock to prevent screen dimming, but the system setting provides a safety net.
Kiosk Features
QR Check-In Display
The kiosk prominently displays a QR code that players scan with their own phones to check in. The QR code is unique to your venue and refreshes automatically.
Checked-In Players
See who's currently at the venue. The kiosk shows:
- Player names and check-in times
- Option to add guest players (for walk-ins without the app)
- Option to remove check-ins (when players leave)
Board Management
If your venue has multiple boards, the kiosk shows their status:
| Status | Meaning | Colour |
| Available | Board is free to use | GREEN |
| In Use | Game in progress | ORANGE |
| Maintenance | Board needs attention | RED |
| Offline | Board not available | GREY |
Venue Leaderboard
The kiosk can display a live leaderboard showing top players at your venue, ranked by average, games won, or other metrics.
Heartbeat
Paired kiosk devices send a periodic heartbeat to the server to confirm they're online. This lets venue owners monitor their devices remotely. If a tablet goes offline (battery dies, Wi-Fi drops), the venue dashboard will show it as disconnected.
Kiosk Security
⚠️
PIN Protection: Kiosk mode uses a PIN to prevent casual users from exiting kiosk mode or accessing venue settings. Set a PIN during setup that only staff know.
The kiosk operates with limited permissions — it can manage check-ins and boards but cannot modify venue settings or delete data.
